WINEMAKER NOTES
In the realm of Napa Valley’s elite offerings, the 2016 PEAK Cabernet Sauvignon stands as a testament to the art of winemaking and the profound dedication to quality that defines Acumen. This extraordinary wine is a culmination of our meticulous craftsmanship and a reflection of our commitment to showcasing the best of our organically farmed estate vineyards on the prestigious Atlas Peak. By individually fermenting each block and varietal from our high-elevation vineyards, we ensure the utmost complexity and potential for our blends, capturing the unique character of every lot.

The 2016 vintage of PEAK Cabernet Sauvignon masterfully combines the vibrant energy and elegance of our Attelas Vineyard with the opulence and intensity of Edcora. This harmonious blend creates a wine that is both powerful and refined, embodying the quintessential qualities of mountain-grown Cabernet. The result is a wine of exceptional depth and complexity, reflecting the diverse terroirs of our estate vineyards.

On the nose, the 2016 PEAK Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a symphony of aromas, where ripe blackberry and sweet black cherry take center stage, accompanied by intriguing notes of cola, anise, dark chocolate, and sandalwood. This aromatic complexity is a prelude to the wine’s palate, where voluptuous dark fruit flavors intertwine with rich, mouth-filling tannins, creating a multi-layered experience of berry compote, graphite, and mineral nuances. The wine's structure and balance are further enhanced by its extended barrel aging of 22 months in 100% French oak, with 85% of the barrels being new and exhibiting a Medium+ toast profile. The choice of esteemed coopers—Atelier Centre France, Boutes, Ermitage, Alain Fouquet, Jarnac, Radoux, Saury, and Vicard—ensures the optimal integration of oak and wine, contributing to its complex flavor profile and long, lush finish.

Crafted by the renowned winemaker Phillip Titus, the 2016 PEAK Cabernet Sauvignon is composed of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 8% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot, each varietal adding its distinctive character to the final blend. This carefully curated composition exemplifies the balance and sophistication that Acumen strives to achieve with every vintage.

For those who seek a Cabernet Sauvignon of extraordinary pedigree and refinement, the 2016 PEAK is an impeccable choice, offering a profound and gratifying wine experience that celebrates the essence of Napa Valley's high mountain terroir.

94 POINTS - "The 2016 Acumen Peak Cabernet Sauvignon shows up with a long and sturdy appearance on the palate. This wine offers attractive aromas and flavors of black fruit, licorice, and spice. A shading of oak adds additional complexity. " - Wilfred Wong

93 POINTS - "After seven years at Alpha Omega, Henrik Poulsen joined Denis Malbec on this project in 2013. Acumen focuses on two organically farmed vineyards, 116 acres in all, that Malbec and viticulturist Garrett Buckland helped founder Eric Yuan locate when he was looking to establish a winery in Napa Valley. This is the first vintage Poulsen made on his own, a powerful mountain wine, with black fruit that completely fills the mineral-driven tannins, even as the austere structure holds it tight, without any trace of harshness. A grand wine, delivering rose scents in the midst of its power, this is built to last." - Wine & Spirits
