FOOD PAIRING
A truly Tuscan Cabernet, in which the great Bordeaux variety is interpreted with Maremma style: maximum ripeness and highest quality. Intense fruit, notes of ripe blueberry and wild black berries, with hints of spices that express the beauty of Cabernet without ever showing any of the varietal's herbaceousness or greenpepper qualities.
The wine ages for 8 - 10 months in container before being bottled, for maximum softness on the palate, overall balance, elegance and clean expression of fruit. All of these elements must come together in a perfectly complete package that is drinkable, yet full of Cabernet character and optimal enjoyment both on the nose and on the palate.
The Maremma, situated around the Tuscan town of Scansano, is the new outpost for some of Italy’s most renowned wine producers (Terrabianca, Frescobaldi, and Sette Ponti) and boasts its own homegrown successes (Le Pupille and Moris Farms). Over the last few years, this region of Toscana has been leaving behind its image as a rural, wild outback and quietly acquiring panache, courtesy of this influx of prestigious winemakers. Celebrity Chef Mario Batali and restaurateur Joseph Bastianich joined the ranks of these notable names in 2001, partnering with Bastianich’s mother, chef and restaurateur Lidia Bastianich, to start a new label—La Mozza. This represents the second venture for Joe and Lidia, who have been crafting Friuli’s hallmark whites and intriguing indigenous reds under the Bastianich label since 1999.
Clean, intense aromas of mature dark fruits, especially wild blackberry and cassis, with a backdrop of sweet caressing spices, vanilla, cinnamon, and a light shade of pepperiness emerge after some time in the glass. The wine is medium-full on the palate and nicely round and substantial. Fresh but quite broad and very balanced, showing velvety tannins on the finish that give the wine elegance and length.

92 POINTS - "Spicy, zesty and expressive, the wine opens up with alluring aromas of dark red fruits and wild berries, cinnamon, licorice, earth tones, smoked meats and roasted chestnuts. In the glass, the flavors continue to expand with dynamic notes of dark plum, red currant, licorice, savory spices, velvety texture, and a persistent finish. True Cabernet character with a Tuscan twist." - Chris Sawyer
Strong cheese like parmesan and pecorino, charcuterie, roasted veggies, gourmet sandwiches, fresh-made gnocchi with creamy pesto, pan-seared duck breast, wild game with herbs, and hearty red meat dishes.
