WINEMAKER NOTES
Indulge in the captivating allure of the Sonoma County pioneers with Rowen 2017 Red—a wine that embodies the spirit of innovation and craftsmanship. Our winemakers have been granted the freedom to express their passion fully, resulting in a wine that is as limitless as the sky above.
Nestled amidst the picturesque Cooley Ranch, a land of mountains, sea, and fog, our vineyard stands tall at elevations ranging from 800 to 2,040 feet. The Bordeaux varietals, flourishing on the steep terrain and volcanic soil, find their ideal home here. Above the fog line, Cooley Ranch basks in the sun, nurturing the grapes with hotter growing temperatures and encouraging the development of exquisite tannins.
The 2017 growing season commenced with early winter showers, followed by a warm, dry start. Overcast days and heat waves, along with a surprising July rain, shaped the grapes, leading to an early bud break and ultimately, a harvest at the peak of ripeness. The result? Fruit that exudes unparalleled vibrancy and balanced acidity.
ROWEN's red blend unveils a symphony of flavors—an opulent, yet elegant wine composed of high-elevation, mountain fruit. Dark cherries, blackberries, and sweet toasted oak intermingle with co-fermented Viognier, adding a delightful floral charm. The palate comes alive with the structured finesse of Cabernet Sauvignon, revealing juicy cassis, delicate floral notes, and a hint of sweet vanilla. The co-fermentation of Syrah and Viognier, a classic Northern Rhone technique, brings an exotic floral element and a rounder mouthfeel to the wine.
Whether savored now alongside sharp cheeses, charcuterie, and grilled filet mignon, or cellared to enhance its allure for years to come, the 2017 ROWEN Red Wine promises an unforgettable journey of taste and delight. Embrace the pioneering spirit of Sonoma County and raise your glass to the artistry of Cooley Ranch in every sip.

92 POINTS - "Rowen 2017 is a deep, dark and lush red wine blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Malbec, 15% Syrah and 3% Viognier. Fragrant with dark cherry, blackberry, toasty oak, dry, medium-plus-bodied and in the style of a Northern Rhône red. Look for dark cherry, cassis, pink florals, well-integrated oak spice with a hint of vanilla and cola smooth and long on the finish. Very nicely done!" - Natalie MacLean
91 POINTS - "This dark ruby colored wine opens with a mild blackberry, black plum and mild saddle leather bouquet with hints of loam and dried herbs. On the palate, this wine is medium plus bodied, balanced, smooth, round, and juicy. The flavor profile is black currant and stony mineral blend with notes of black tea and blackberry. We also detected a cola in the aftertaste. The finish is dry and its grippy tannins build-up and stick around for quite a while. We also detected as touch of heat as well. The Panel would pair this wine with a ribeye steak or a Colorado lamb chop. Enjoy" - Ken's Wine Guide
90 POINTS - "This is a brawny, likable blend led by 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, with 22% Malbec, 15% Syrah and 3% Viognier. Earthy hints of sage and cedar help balance and complement the dark-fruit overtones that show powerful concentration." - Wine Enthusiast
