A classic second label, Petit Bâtard is the “illegitimate offspring”of Xtant – offering the vineyard provenance and winemaking pedigree of its parent at a more accessible price.Like Xtant, Petit Bâtard is a blend of Lewelling Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, Kletter Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon and Oakville Station Malbec. With slightly more emphasis on Merlot than Xtant, Petit Bâtard is approachable upon release; offering a supple, mouthfilling blend of lush fruit and soft tannins.

Rich and supple, our 2013 Petit Bâtard is a beautiful reflection of a premier Napa Valley vintage. Deep purple hues set the stage for layers of blueberry, cranberry, and bing cherry on the nose. On the palate smooth tannins give way to notes of sweet tea, clove and black licorice. Well balanced acid and bright fruit ensure that this will be a wine to be enjoyed for many years to come!
Petit Bâtard enjoys the same level of “no-holds-barred”winemaking as Xtant, with the distinction between the two made only in the final blend. Winemaker Jeff Gaffner employs gentle, meticulously monitored, small-lot winemaking and extended barrel aging to promote the seductive richness and supple texture that make Petit Bâtard such an incredible Napa Valley value.
